The 2nd Annual Sir Edmund Hillary Memorial Lecture

At the Royal Geographical Society in May 2010, Jan Morris gave a wonderfully entertaining and vivid description of her experience as The Times Special Correspondent with the successful 1953 British Expedition to Mount Everest. Her story, without slides or PowerPoint, captivated an almost full house. Ticket sales and very generous auction bidding together provide welcome income from our major fundraising event of the year.

We received so many enquiries asking if Jan's 'An Outsider on Everest' was available that we decided to publish it! It is nicely produced in A4 double column format on quality paper and with 2 colour illustrations and is an excellent memento of the most memorable of all mountaineering adventures. 'And since dear old Ed Hillary is presiding in spirit over us all this evening, and since to my mind he truly represents all that is best about the long epic of Everest, let me end with a very last memory of him.'
