The Sir Edmund Hillary Memorial Lecture May 2010
At the Royal Geographical Society Jan Morris gave a wonderfully entertaining and vivid description of her experience as The Times Special Correspondent with the successful 1953 British Expedition to Mount Everest. Her vivid story, without slides or PowerPoint, captivated an almost full house. Ticket sales and very generous auction bidding together provide welcome income from our major fundraising event of the year.
We have published Jan's An Outsider on Everest - £3 minimum donation + post, or by email pdf.
The Sir Edmund Hillary Memorial Lecture May 2011
On 9th June 2011, our main speaker was Stephen Venables who, in 1988, became the first Brit to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen. His illustrated talk will be 'Shipton Country' in the steps of Eric Shipton, the 20th Century's greatest mountain explorer. Our special guest Dr Mike Gill will talk about the early days of the Himalayan Trust, the 'Silver Hut Expedition' and the first ascent of Ama Dablam in 1961.

Also a tribute to George Band together with a focus on our Teacher training programme in the Taplejung area of Kanchenjunga.
