Join Rebecca Stephens in Ladakh
Ladakh - Rebecca Stephens hosts a Himalayan Trust fund-raising trek to the Markha Valley
We have three places left on a trek of a lifetime to the 'Little Tibet' of the Indian Himalaya - authentic, unspoilt, strikingly beautiful, and Buddhist. It's a short 2 week trip, but the experience is so exotic and so far removed from our daily lives that it will give us memories and joy for years. We'll be spending a couple of days at the annual Hemis festival - lots of colour and dancing - and then nine days trekking in the secluded Markha Valley, following the ancient trails that link isolated villages with the yak-grazing pastures of the Nimaling plains. What's best of all is that we'll be accompanied by Siri, a beautiful, gentle Indian guide who was educated at a monastic school and is extraordinarily well versed in the culture and religion of Ladakh. He joined us in Bhutan last year, so we know...but this time we're joining him in his home land where his grandparents are yak herders and his parents farm the land. I'm counting the days.
Each trekker is invited to donate £250 to the Himalayan Trust.
